FULWELL METHODIST CHURCH
OUR MINISTER
Rev. Gareth Phillips started his ministry in Fulwell in September 2010 after studing for a BA in ministry and theology at Durham university. Initially he was given pastoral responsibility for only Fulwell but was given a further two churches, Roker Methodist Church and Whitburn Methodist Church, in the Sunderland Circuit during his first appointment.
As a result of these additions Gareth began looking at the possibilty of some form of federation between the churches and consequently Fulwell and Roker share a number of significant events during the Church year, as well as sharing their evening worship at Roker each Sunday evening at 6pm.
Gareth was born and raised in the North East of England and was a teacher of Science in several North Eastern Schools before moving into ministry.
He is married to Jackie and has two children Matthew and Charlotte, he enjoys running, cycling and surfing (when his busy schedule allows) and is a fan of Middlesbrough Football club.
He has been highly influenced by the writings of Rob Bell and Brian McLaren and describes his theology as liberal post evangelical !!!!!!!!
OUR CHURCH
Here at Fulwell we believe that belonging takes precedent over believing or behaving. Although we are predominantly an ageing congregation we look to be welcoming to all, regardless of age, class, sexuality, denomination or circumstance.
We enjoy the fact that our church building is used extensively by the community and would love to see new visitors to our worship services whether you are already a committed Christian, exploring what faith means for you or even if you are just interested in seeing what happens inside a church building.
We have a Sunday Club, (all our staff are DBS checked), which runs for the duration of the Sunday service and the children enjoy a short time in the main service before going downstairs to their own groups.
Like most Methodist churches our Sunday worship is led by ministers or local preachers. We are committed to demonstrating God’s love for all his creation without pre-requisites.
